Got this off airliners.net. Seems kind of odd that the A400M engine test plane is the C-130, the plane it\'s going to compete against. http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/Lockheed-C-130K-Hercules/1449654/L/

Help, I\'m trying to locate some information regarding the portable urinal stations that are self-contained that would be uploaded to the acft when doing personnel drops or large number of pax for long flights. These were used so that all the pax would not have to wait to use the on acft aft urinals. If I remember correctly, they really weren\'t more than a urinal with a large splash shield and line going into a holding tank. The assembly could be strapped to the floor and then off loaded upon arrival to be dumped. It was more or less a go between when you had more pax than could use the on acft urinals but not really enough to warrant a comfort pallet. I believe it …

Am looking for information about this incident. Air Force reports appear to be inconsistent. Additional remains of the 5 member crew, my brother being one, have not yet been identified, nor will the AF release location where remains were found. I would be most grateful for any help.

Found this the other day and though maybe some of you old gunboat fossils would like it. Dan Puff the Magic Dragon, a bird of Cam Rahn Bon Came to fly the evening skies In a land called Vietnam Puff the Magic Dragon, came across the sea To write his name in guns of flame In the heart of hostile SEA When the grunts are in trouble And Charlie\'s all around The thoughts may pry into the sky Beneath the fires on the ground The VC\'s mortal terror, starts when many cries And the Dragon\'s breath of sudden death Comes screaming from the sky Yes, Puff will still be flying From I Corps down to Four Till Charlie\'s gone and the evening comes I…

C-130s may add safer loadmaster seats By Bruce Rolfsen - Staff writer Posted : Monday Nov 24, 2008 7:18:15 EST Loadmasters onboard the C-130 Hercules may feel safer thanks to an effort to add crashworthy chairs. Air Force Materiel Command is looking at options for installing a pair of crashworthy seats in C-130 cargo bays near the paratroop doors, according to a request sent to aircraft contractors. The command is not yet seeking bidders to build seats. Seat specifications call them to protect an airman from an impact of up to 16Gs, a requirement similar to the crash rating of the cockpit chairs. Each seat would be mounted to the aircraft fuselage but f…

Sudan doesn\'t seem to be a popular tourist destination these days, but, I was sent this picture of 4 Sudan AF Herks parked at Khartoum in Mar 2007. It mentioned 1102, 1103, 1104, and maybe 1105 I looked at Google Earth and the picture looks the same 15 36 04.07N 32 32 42.80E This contradicts Lars\' book in which he has 5 Sudanese Herk losses out of 6 bought. May 11 1987 Feb 08 1990 Jul 25 1992 Feb 26 1996 Jun 03 1999 Can anyone straighten this out? Thanks Bob

C-130 helps damaged British jet land in Iraq Staff report Posted : Monday Dec 15, 2008 17:53:21 EST A deployed C-130 Hercules aircrew is earning praise for guiding a damaged British jet to a safe night landing in Iraq. On the night of Nov. 30, pilot Capt. Daniel Hilferty was flying near the worst storm he had ever seen when his crew heard a distress call from a Royal Air Force Hawker 800 passenger jet. The RAF executive jet had been damaged by the storm and didn’t have a working weather radar or a fully functional yaw dampener to prevent the plane from swinging left and right. The British crew also didn’t know how much damage hail had done to the jet’s fuse…

Here comes the Christmas holiday season again. I barely made it home for Christmas in 1962, after returning from two months TDY at Homestead AFB, FL for the Cuban crisis. Our finance weenies concluded that all who had been on the deployment, living in barracks and eating in the mess hall had to repay every penny of the separate rations and quarters allowance for that time in a lump sum. So my paycheck for me and my family on December 15th was $1.00 (There was a regulation that required a paycheck be issued, but there was no consideration for monthly payments or anything like that.) Years later, spent Christmas 1969 at Nha Trang AB, RVN with a great group of Herky pe…

The link below takes you to an article on the MN Reserves. There is also a pretty good video on the right side once you get through the advertising........... It brings in nearly 60 million dollars into the local economy, employs more than 1300 people and that\'s just the beginning. You can find the Air Force Reservists stationed at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and these days reserve is an understatement. \"It is a little bit slower than most of the other airplanes,\" said Captain Chris Rieland about the C-130 airplane he pilots. A good reason to support Mannheim Steamroller group this Christmas plus the music is good.............. - Larry Mannheim Steamroller, the recording group famous for putting a new twist on traditional Christmas music, is hoping to spread holiday cheer to the military this season by giving away 1 million CDs to troops and their families. The group and its creator, Chip Davis, have started giving away copies of its multiple Christmas CDs to troops at home and abroad. The group also is giving away copies of its children\'s pop-up book, \"My Little Christmas Tree.\" \"Throughout the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many in the armed services,\" Davis said. …

I saw 68-10940 on a flatbed sans wings and tail going south down Skibo Rd (by the mall in Fayetteville NC) with a police escort, Tuesday, the 10th. Anyone know were it was going? It looked in good shape so I don\'t think it was going to the scrap yard. I have 118.4 hours of my life in that tube of pain. John Gaudelli

What\'s the latest plans for Maxwell? Will they keep their Herks? At one point, I thought they were going to switch to C5 or KC135 or something, but I saw a semi-recent article somewhere about them getting the first AMP birds. Anyone know what their future holds?

Would appreciate any help with this. I know of two people in the country who can administer the FAA turbo-prop eval, the problem is that they now have to fly with you on the aircraft. Being an active duty guy, they both are not authorized on flight orders. I otherwise have no way of getting them on board one of our Hercs. Does anyone know what we\'re missing here? Is there a waiver format out there somewhere to AFI 11-401 that I can get ahold of? Pete

C-130E crew loses power over Little Rock The Associated Press Posted : Monday Nov 10, 2008 7:26:18 EST JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — On a practice flight, an Arkansas National Guard crew was put to the test when all four engines of its C-130E lost power in the skies over the Little Rock Air Force Base. They remained calm, however, in the seconds-long emergency Sept. 9 and landed safely. As it turned out, a one-in-a-million fluke caused the problem and was fixed with a $2,100 purchase of a new part, Air Force officials say. The so-called four-engine rollback is so rare that crews are not even trained for it. “What makes this exceptional is this is a very (rare) prob…
