Casey Emailed me and asked about the CAROLINA MOON page I had on my old SamC130 site. To be honest, I\'m not sure if I forgot to transfer it to my new domain or if it was one of a number of pages that were accidentally replaced when I tried to use FRONT PAGE several years ago. Every once in awhile this squadron, the 37th TAS, at Langley is mentioned and always presented in a good light. In Jan. of 1967 I rotated back to Langley for the last 7 months of my enlistment (I hated it there), and for some reason I assumed that it was the 37th that I was assigned to. However after recieving a packet of personel files I requested from the USAF I see I was assigned to the 38th TCS, Langley. Could some one shed a little light on this matter? Was there two different C-130 squadrons at Langley in that time frame? If there was two, or more C-130 squadrons at Langley in 1967 was there a huge difference in the leadership, moral, etc.? We are looking at painting one of our C-130s (4529) with a \"Vintage\" paint job and I was looking at the \"old\" B model pictures and noticed that several were missing. Is that the result of the \"copyright\" issue a while back? I am specifically looking for a picture of a B model in the LAC 3533 to LAC 3650 range with the Coast Guard orange nose but with an all white tail(?). We want to try and recreate the old-style CG shield shown on that one. I\'d also like the story behind the all-white tail! Oh, and where are those pictures taken? The background is the same for several of the birds but a lot of us that been around can\'t place it... Thanks for your help! …

Saw this on u tube today. It is a museum in Viet Nam. It is an unused BLU-82 (duhh,really?). For all you guys involved with that program...including the maint. and munitions guys, I thought this might bring back some memories. Included are a few pics and one of my M-121,10,000 lb bomb fuse well plug, from a bomb that was dropped from my C-130B outta Clark. 10,000 lb bombs were dropped from the C-130B till they were used up and replaced with the 15,000 lb bomb, the BLU-82. G'day Everyone, I am trying to find out if a particular C-130A is still flying. It started life with the RAAF as S/N A97-212 and is now I am told operating with the Serial Number N131EC. I have been able to track it to around 2006 where I found a photo of it being operated by Cherry Air Aviation Services but the trail runs cold from there. I have looked up the data base here but it is pretty blank but it did give me a LPN 3212. As many of you know who follow this site, my mind wanders around all over the place. This item came up.....When did the designation for airlift squadron change?? Meaning when did they go from TCS ( troop carrier squadron) to TAS ( tactical airlift squadron) and now AS (Airlift squadron)? Were the TCS's not under TAC before?? Did the MAC squadrons and wings change ( I think when I was in, they were MAS, MAW) when MATS ( Military Air transport Service, or as one of my best instructors always called it, Might arrive tomorrow sometime) became MAC. My first post! I need some help guys. I went in the AF in May of 66. After basic and tech school at Chanute, I went to Dyess. I was a 42251 and crossed into 43151 so I could be with the aircraft on a more " personal basis". I was sent to CCK, Guam, Fairchild, and Midway but I cant remember 90% of it. My kids and grandkids have asked me about my service memories but I come up blank most of the time. My question is, could you guys recommend any books that would enlighten the kids as to what we did back then(1966-1972)?

I received the message below from David Horn and thought that ya'll might find it interesting. Got an interesting trivia fact on HC-130P 66-0215 during the Vietnam war. It may have been credited with a MIG-21 kill....Casey Quinn the pilot (he thought 65-0215 but has to be 66-0215) replied in an email after he looked in his log book. Mike Welch just told me some thrilling news. The airplane in this video http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675058323_George-M-Godley_TAC-C-13OE-plane_covered-body_priest has been donated to a museum in Chino, California. The fuselage had gone to Boeing to use in the AMPS program and they were getting ready to scrap it until Mike and another C-130 vet took action. Mike is doing a great job as the new president of the TCTAA. This airplane had just come back from the DRAGON ROUGE operation in Stanleyville when the film clip was shot.

What ever became of the old AWADS(?) system that we had back in the first part of the 70's. I'm talkin' about the system that had the buttons on a panel on the glare shield, with, I think, up down, right left and perhaps plus and minus. there was a big black dome on top of the fuselage. I seem to remember either the nav or the copilot had to do something with it, enter a code or somethin'. Best I can recall, it was not all that reliable sometimes. OK, it's been more than a year since I posted this request, but there are a lot of new members now who might be able to help. Back in the late 1970's not long after the 37th TAS was reactivated at Rhein Main, 64-0550 was involved in a serious landing accident at the US Navy facility at Naples, Italy. The left MLG (I think) was torn out. It sat at Naples for a long time and was then temp repaired and flown to Lockheed for the permanent repairs. All I remember was that it was a co-pilot landing (Lt, Beal) at an extremely high speed. The airplane did a 180 and wound up off the end of the runway. Even the bottom of the horizontal stab was damaged so it must have been …
