Been working this for about a week now. Little background on it. The plane left for depot two months ago with no hf problems, nothing in the previous 4 months as well. It landed at depot with #2 hf coupler fault and no tune tone. Depot serviced the coupler and were able to clear the fault and get the tune tone back, but they weren't able to transmit, blamed it on atmospherics , and wrote it up for an in-flight check. It landed back here with the no transmit problem. It tunes just fine, breaks squelch, no faults in any freq range, receive is crystal clear, just no transmit and no sidetone. We've swapped or replaced r/t's, r/t mounts, couplers, interloc…

Just read an announcement that the helicopter that crashed August, 08, in california, doing firefighting activities, was nearly 30% over gross allowable..........The crash killed a number of firefighters and the flight crew.. Seems as if the operator had intentionally, apparently, gave false information about the weight and other performance data of the S-61, which is, i think, a civilian version of the H-3? I reckon that just shows to go ya how important that weight and balance stuff really is, especially when you are operating near the aircraft limits. Maybe that's why us loadies flew with the plane, as a sort of guarantee. Are any of you aware of any similar, if …

Hello! Has anyone ever experienced throttle creep? The problem we are having is that # 3 engine on acft 78000812 has a slight throttle creep when you pull the throttle lever up out of the ground idle detent and move it ahead 1/2 knob and let it go it will move on it's on without going into the flight idle detent. When it moves there is no change in engine settings all FF,TORQUE,RPM,TIT Remain the same.We checked the rigging and it was good all cable tension was dead on.We even changed the fuel control and coordinator and gimble assy. The problem is still there. I don't feel it is in the engine .Can anyone give me any input? You can email me at daniel.gothe@pittsburgh…

The component had been swapped and sometime we …

Here\'s what\'s happening. Aircraft with hyd pressure applied by aux pump. Parking brake released, normal brakes selected, anti skid on and foot pedals depressed to hold brakes, The left forward anti skid valve will occasionally release brake pressure on the left forward brake dropping pressure to zero and then restores it back to 1800 psi. The other brakes drop just slightly. The control box, left anti skid control valve and the left forward transducer have all been replaced, having no affect. Wiring has all been shook down and visually checked. Aircraft had been flying fine days prior, came back with a brakes dragging write up, hyd shop bled brakes, ran follow …

I know that they are retracted by prop oil pressure, and that it takes 240-260 psi to retract them, but what causes the pressure to build to that level? (or keeps it from building to that level when you don't want it to?) My previous ride, the DC-6 had Hamilton Standards which had a very similar low pitch stop, but on that plane, the standard unaided governor pressure wasn't enough to retract the stops, you had to have higher Px oil from the electric feather pump, which was switched on when you pulled the throttles into reverse range. . No feather pump, no reverse. On the Herc, it seems (and maybe I'm missing something ) that the standard prop oil px is enough to…

According to the NDAA as passed by Congress: \"SEC. 141. LIMITATION ON RETIREMENT OF C-130E/H TACTICAL AIRLIFT AIRCRAFT. (a) Limitation- The Secretary of the Air Force may not retire C-130E/H tactical airlift aircraft during fiscal year 2008. ( Maintenance of Certain Retired Aircraft- The Secretary of the Air Force shall maintain each C-130E/H tactical airlift aircraft retired during fiscal year 2007 in a condition that will permit recall of such aircraft to future service.\" If I understand this correctly perhaps there is some hope for rewing/repair of these old birds.

I got this question from a friend of mine @ Lynden. I haven't been on a Herc since 12/95 so I'm stumped. Any help? Don R. "A student asked me how to adjust the dip stick readings for the different fuels. JP-4, JP-5, JET-A, JET-A-1 and so on. Any ideas? Is there a chart? Which fuel is the dip stick calibrated to?"

Dear Forum,I have encountered a TD Control problem that bothering me for the past 3 weeks and still not resolved. We have a test cell for testing both -15 Bare and QEC engines couple to a Water Brake for power adsorption. All these while have been working fine until recently. Consecutively 4 QEC engines failed test as a result of the same problems:1. Engine unable to run to take off TIT of 1077°C when Throttle Lever at 90 degrees2. Unable to perform Normal Limiting Check as Relay unable to activate. The strange part is the above checks will fail only when the QEC engines were tested with Raven Solid State TD Amp (P/N: 23052609A). As part of the troubleshooting, we use…

BIRD NESTS

I am looking for any feed back from anyone about bird nests in engine nacelles, Specifically but not limited to J-Models. I know that the Canadian H-Models have screens installed on the upper aft nacelle and very rarely do they have nesting issues. We have had many instances of nests being built in lower trays, beside the oil tank and even once found robin eggs in the established nest. Any and all feedback is great.

We have this aircraft with APU start normally on ground but unable to start in Flight. The APU intake door opened to 15 degrees, rpm goes to 30 percent but no rise in EGT. Failed air test thrice. In the course of fault isolation, we have changed out the no.2 aux touchdown relay, door control relay, door closed control relay, ignition unit, fuel control unit, and APU door actuator. Have anyone out there had this experience and know what is the problems. We have decided to change out the APU. But what if it happen again.

hello guys, there's a snag happening on my aircraft involving the fuel vent system that i'd appreciate ur input. currently my aircraft has fuel continuously dripping out from the outboard vent line even though the aircraft is inside the hangar on a cool night...after turning on the boost pump, the dripping stops...but if carry out fuel transfer on ground into #1 tank the dripping starts again...when refueling from the SPR into #1 tank fuel gushes out of the outboard vent line as well... we already defuel and purged the #1 tank twice, first to replace the inboard and outboard vent valve, second to replace the check valve near the collector vent tank...the problem still …
