If this needs to be moved to historical - please do so. I am unsure. http://hometown.aol.com/frauleinm/images/C130/cck1973.jpg The image is 1111 x 1513 If anyone is interested in seeing more of it let me know.I just started to scan it. It is a standard orientation publication, with the five W\'s. It is fairly large. Each page requires to be halved and then scanned. Which is why I am asking if anyone is interested. I do not want to spend to much time, if there is no interest. I got a kick out of one page with two things titled: Money - Where to get it. Money - Where to spend it. \"Where to spend it\" Was that really a problem? :P

I am amazed at how much you guys can come up with in regards to C-130 missions! Is there a way to find out specific dates of missions in Viet Nam? For example, on Jan. 1st. 1968, I was flying on my acft. 56-475, and we were shot up at Katum! I was flying as assistant crew-chief, just for the hell of it--for excitement!!! We usually didn\'t go in-country from Cam Rahn Bay with our acft. Any way, we made it out after plugging bullet holes in the wings(with fuel running down our armpits) etc. and after transferring fuel with the GTC blowing in the spilled fuel! I am curious if that mission was ever recorded and if so, could the paper-work be recovered. I am pretty sure t…

I\'m pretty sure that I saw this first on RAF Hercs, and then much later in life, on some L100s. Its written on the steps of the crew door, readable from the outside when they\'re down, and it says \"For Ground and Air Use Only\" I\'m aware that most Hercs don\'t have it and I\'ve always wondered why some procedure put it there. What does it mean? My first and only thought is \"Don\'t open that door if you\'ve ditched in water\", but when the door\'s closed, the warning is upside down. Who is going to take the time to try to read that sh** when ......Glug Glug?? Just a long lived thought.

Whats up, So I just received an assignment to Kirtland, 58 maintenance squadron. Im an engine guy who has only worked the flight line, C-17's and C-5's. Started out at Mcchord and am leaving Ramstein come November, just a little curious as to what I can expect? Are these things reliable? break a lot? Obviously their ancient, on par with C-5's? God I hope not. Thanks for any info.

Howdy Herk veterans, I am enroute to the C-130 via the TC-12 down here in Corpus Christi, Texas. Our assignment drop will be in a few months, and I'm looking to narrow down my choices. I know I want slicks, but the first question is whether or not I should shoot for J-models? Is the loss of a full-sized crew worth gaining fancy avionics? Second, current active-duty slick locations include Little Rock, Pope, Ramstein, Dyess, Peterson, Cheyenne, and Yokota. If you were a young pilot about to start your career in the C-130, where would you choose to fly first? Thank y'all for your opinions and time, and I appreciate your current or previous service to the country.

I was wandering if anybody ever water skied at cam ranh. One time in the early 70's when we were there on the shuttle and we had a day off the pilot said us all go water sking tomorrow I thought he was crazy. Special services rented boats and water skies it was about two miles behind ihe run way. The water was a little choppie but we all had a good time.

10/5/2009 - PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- A second C-130 Hercules airlift squadron moved to Colorado Springs Oct. 3, joining the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson during an activation and assumption of command ceremony. The 52nd Airlift Squadron joins the 302nd Airlift Wing as part of the Air Force's "Total Force Integration" initiative that brings together active duty and Reserve Airmen under the same organization, flying the same aircraft. Through 2012, the squadron is expected to bring approximately 180 additional Airmen to the Colorado Springs area. "Total Force Integration is about efficiencies," said Col. Jay Pittman, 302nd AW commander…

Hi guys My name is Fred and i'd like to ask you all for a favor if that is possible. But first allow me to introduce myself. Im a pilot with the 501SQN back in Portugal (we're the only herc squadron here). I did my flight training in Laughlin AFB (07-07, Falcons and Mothers) and came back to fly the herc. When i was back in the US we used a publication (T-6 and T-38), maybe the most important one (so important that we knew it by heart), that was the Standard Operational Procedures or SOPs, that like the name says, encompassed all the procedures to do in different phases of planning, flying, and all around the activity that we pilots do. The thing is... I was hoping …

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFNS) -- Engineers with the 418th Flight Test Squadron are currently testing a C-130H3 cargo plane equipped with Hamilton Sundstrand NP 2000 propellers. The new eight-bladed composite propellers are shaped to provide additional thrust in the takeoff and low airspeed range while using the current C-130 engines. Regular C-130 "legacy" planes use four-blade propellers. With eight blades, the NP 2000 props are designed to perform with more power and efficiency. "A major limitation propellers have is the wave drag generated by shockwaves when the propeller tips go supersonic," said Dustin Marschik, a 418th FTS performance and flying qu…

I read the following on the AF Magazine...NEW? Did any of you folks ever do the Micronisa run out of Guam supplying the Navy CAT teams...this is the same method that we used 38 years ago. Probably with the same airframes that are doing it today. Muff New Airdrop Method: The Air Force now has at its disposal a new means of airdrop to resupply ground troops operating from small-sized forward bases in Afghanistan. This low-cost, low-altitude (LCLA) combat airdrop concept was tested in early February with a C-130 transport from Bagram Airfield and is now operational, as of March 1, complementing other means of aerial resupply. "This is a significant step forward in ou…

From the AFA news: The Air Force has awarded L-3 Communications a $61 million contract to add a weapons package to eight MC-130W Combat Spear special-mission aircraft to give them a gunship-like attack capability. Under the terms of the deal, L-3 will provide the weapons kits, which are called "precision strike packages," for installation on the aircraft at Warner Robins Air Logistics Center in Georgia. MC-130Ws fitted with the weapons will be known as Dragon Spears. Air Force Special Operations Command is arming these aircraft to relieve the relentless operational demands on its regular AC-130 gunships until new AC-130Js enter the fleet.

I just got back from a American Legion meeting and a RET. Air force Major asked me if i knew about a c130 crew back in thr 60's that was trying to sneak a car in to the US from Germany and some how they found out customes knew about it so they dumped it in to the ocean before landing. Seems like i can rember somthing about that but i am not sure. Can any body rember any thing about this.
