I'm looking for information on 56-0471 for my research project on the C-130 'A' fleet formerly assigned to the 118th TAW/105th TAW of the TNANG in Nashville. What I do have thus far is: this airplane was known as "The Blind Bat". It served with the 463rd TAW/35th TAS at Naha AB, Okinawa (circa 1969) & the 139th TAS NY ANG (circa 1972-75) / 105th TAS (1976) and then with the 147th TAS of the Deleware ANG (circa 1976-77) and then back to the 105th TAS (1977-1981). It was a test aircraft for the Black Crow Truck Ignition Locating System. Upon retirement, she went to AMARC on 23 April 1990 (CF 0087) and was eventually sold to National and broken up. If anyone ha…

Hello everyone, Let me introduce myself my name is justin nichols and my grandfather i believe he rode and maintained a C-130. Years ago on a telephone converstion he told me and showed me a site where his plane was being restored for display...somewhere. After some talking he had a photo (to which I have a copy of) of one of there trips where he is standing shaking hands with i think either a vietnamse boy or korean boy. Either way he wasnt sure if he was able to make the trip to donate the photo, because they really would have liked to have it....well I promised him when i got old enough to drive i would pick him up and take him there to do it. ...i never got …

Can someone please confirm which C-130 fuselage is currently sitting over in the Medical Training compound over by the civil terminal? C-130A 53-3131 was there for a long time, but 58-0727 joined it in April 2005. Are both still there, or has one moved on? Thanks, Andy Marden

When I was stationed at Pope, I seem to remember one of our aircraft that was TDY to Mildenhall was involved in a taxi accident in Turkey. It tore up a wing, I think, and there was a lot of red tape generated about it between the U.S. and Turkey. I remember it took a lllooonnnggg time to get resolved. Anyone have any info?

I know this is off topic but... Dan I found a scrap of info on Google about that B-25 near where I live and watched as it was brought to the shore. "Rossman, now 81 years old, was involved in five B-25 crashes and emergency landings during World War II. The first one, on June 6, 1944 (D-Day in Europe), was in South Carolina during a flight practicing single engine procedures. "The instructor pilot decided that we should also practice combat type low-level flying," explains Rossman. "Flying over Lake Greenwood, South Carolina, we got too low and the props touched the water. We had to ditch the airplane and it took 24 stitches to close the rip in my chin when the seat b…

Lets see if there is anybody else here who remembers seeing this or who knows the whole story. Back in 1990 at Navy Jubail in Saudi (man what a packed that place was to get into) we saw a non- US herk with one wing tip split wide open from the tip into the outboard tank. Only info I ever got on it was from a fuel pit guy that said a helo hover taxied right into the plane. No idea if it was ever repaired or what happened to it. I dont know what country it belonged to but I want to say it was one of the old English empire country's. Dan

“The Legend of How the 118th/105th TAW Got New Planes†As Told By: MSgt. James L. Reynolds (ret) 118th AES Tennessee Air Guard When I began my service with the Tennessee Air National Guard in 1984, I “cut my teeth†on the C-130 ‘A’ models. By the time I retired in 2004, we had transitioned to C-130 H-2 Models, and in between I logged time on the C-9A, KC-135, C-141, C-5A, as well as the C-130 ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘E’, and ‘H’ models. Yet this is the story of how we finally got new ‘H’ models in 1989-1990. Major General Carl Wallace was perhaps the best Adjutant General to have ever served the State of Tennessee. He is remembered as â…
