Okay, now, don't ask why an ex-loady would ask such a question, or for that matter, even understand the principles it's based on, but still, here goes............. After slow down on any airdrop operation, would the aircraft be in the slow flight regime, when attitude controls airspeed, and power controls altitude????? I would imagine this would be the case. As the load(s) exit the airplane the CG shifts and weight decreases must really make this a very active time for the pilot.......At normal troop, CDS and equipment drop altitudes, I can see where there is some room to allow for this and stay in the air... it must work, since i am still here, but what about LAPES,…

Saw in the LM Code One mag where the AF has paid $36 mil for the RR 3.5 engine upgrade for all H's. Specs on a P3 have shown a 12% savings on fuel. Good deal! Bill

Please i need help. We recently encountered an uncommanded movement of the #4 engine throttle lever from ground idle to just before the gate of flight idle. We checked and confirmed that the cable tension is ok. We also cleaned and greased all bell-cranks. Yet, the problem persists. Once the throttle is moved from the ground idle, it creeps forward until it reaches the gate of flight idle. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

This particular sbag has been disturbing the team for the oast few weeks. What could be the cause, we have replaced the control unit, antenna and also TR unit. Checked every component in the system for serviceability but it still persists.

Good day. We encountered a strange defect on the C130H during a recent ground run, after a left wing refit during a depot maintenance. #1 throttle crept slowly towards T/O after a couple of seconds when all throttles were set at 900degC. A thorough check has been carried out on the airframe to engine cable tension, rigging and signs of binding. The results come up to be good. There wasn\'t any sign of engine vibrations during the ground run. We had also replaced the engine control clutch at the \'horsecollar\', a FCU and a coordinator as a precautionary measure. However, the defect remained the same. Has anyone had any suggestions to this problems? Thanks and appreciate. :…

Hi guys As the dash1 says the descent on clean config should be done with idle power and speeds acording with the area we're flying in and then 250 KIAS from 20000' downwards. The thing is that we follow a squadron rule that says that we should set around 3000 lb torque for the descent. We were discussing that on one of those long flights... (we had already talked about the ladies ) and no one really knew why was that because its been done like that for 30 years. The thing is that i couldn't find the reason for that teqnique. My AC was telling me that his guess would be for pressurization purposes, that in idle the capability of the engine to output the same flow via…

As a -130 pilot, I've noticed some changes that have occured throughout C-130s around the world. One of the things I don't understand is why the position of the upper beacon/strobe was moved to the upper fuselage from the vert. stab? Anybody know why this is? In this position, it is harder to see this beacon/light. On the vert. stab it is much more visible. The funny thing is, certain herks in the USAF have it in on the stab and others have it on the upper fuse? Also, does anyone know the reason for having flashing navigation lights and their real function since we do have a beacon (should be used for running APU/GTC and engines as well as aircraft movement)? Doe…

How is it going? I work at the depot and we are have a issue that has stumped us so I'm hoping someone out there has had this issue before. On a 65 model our temp control wants to migrate back to cool when pressurizing in manual while driving hot. We have changed the temp control valve, flow control, thermostats, control boxes, and pressure controller but nothing seems to fix this problem. We can only get to three inhg on the ground. The electrics shop has shot the wires and says they are good. We put a 240 degree thermostat in the unit and the unit wouldn't drive hot so we tried it with the thermostat still hooked up but pulled out of the unit and it drove hot. The engin…

Had an issue today, figured I would share: Went up on the red ball, the crew showed me the following: #4 Engine: *TIT set at 900deg. *Torque was significantly higher than the rest, can't remember by how much, but definitely very much higher. *Fuel Flow was about 250-300lbs higher than the rest. Of course they showed me other things they thought may have something to do with it, taking it to null, showing me top of beta, etc. I asked if throttle alignment looked good, the FE looked over and said "yeah man it's lined up." I told them to shut it down. Originally, I planned on doing a Rig Check, and TD Amp Test. Further thinking about it though, I realized o…

OK guys, I know the Herc can be flown with the APU removed, does anyone remember where the guidance is to do so? W/B adjustments, block-off panels, ect? MESM only speaks to flight with APU inop. I hate this getting old thing,,,

Does anyone know roughly how many aircraft have this modification? It's the noise cancelling mod in the flight deck. A plus would be to know which aircraft in particular have it. Thanks

G'day Everyone, I have been looking at engine over torque inspection (for T56-A-15) but all our publications have very little information. What I do have is 19,600 inlbs is max 23,260 inbls and above an over torque inspection is required. The only problem is well no where can I find anything writen as to what the inspection is. Any one have any references / ideas as to what the inspection is meant to be. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to find out what the minimum takeoff speed is for a c-130H without taking the time to do all the charts. I'd say with no load, minimum crew, and around 34k fuel.
