Hey guys, My father in law told me a story today that I believe to be a myth but wondered if any of you had ever heard it before. Apparently whilst working in South Africa in the early 90's, he was told that the C-130 gearbox required a specific type of grease. This grease had a specific rule (that was apparently provided by the OEM) that women on their "time of the month" could not touch it. If they did, secretions in their sweat (apparently only present at that time of the month), would react with the grease and damage it. I cannot find anything about this online and it frankly sounds way too farfetched to be real. Dan

I don't know if I should laugh or be amazed.A fellow on the crew chief site said he was on a C-130E that was at 61K doing HALO drops.I questioned it and he affirmed that was what he said.I spent quite a few years on Herks,The best altitude I was ever at on one was during Apollo13 support off of Samoa we were at 37500.and literally hanging on the props.Anyone ever seen 61k in a C-130?

I got a pic from Australia saying it was 3174 crashed, last week I saw the second pic with the tail number readily identified. They don't look like the same accident. Anyone know what the tail number of the second herk might be and where was the accident Thanks Bob

Anyone out in the ABQ area or stationed at Kirtland? Trying to get a handle on the Herk ground trainers there. Last time I was there almost 2 years ago, there was an E model and a fuselage behind the Combat Rescue School I think these may be 63-7777, the fuselage, and 64-0521 There was an ex USCG, later USAF Herk in a Hangar used as a ground trainer, 67-7185 There appears to be two herks next to the Northern most hangar off Aberdeen Ave. They may be 64-0559, a fuselage, and 69-5829. Can anyone verify them for us? I have a trip out there but not until October. Thanks Bob

Last August I noted HC-130H(N)s 92-2104 and 88-2101 at Brussels airport. According to most sources 92-2104 is with 211th RQS/AK ANG and 88-2101 with 102nd RQS/NY ANG. I've also heard some reports that 92-2104 was with 102nd RQS/NY ANG at that time, possibly just on loan for a deployment. Anyone have more info please? Koen

For a book on a mid-Atlantic rescue,May, 1980, featuring the Skipper (Maj. Wm. F. Gunkel, now deceased) and crew of a C-130E, during a routine flight (Fla, to NC, for fuel, to Frankfort) that turned into a life saver. Author is looking for anyone involved in rescue, as well as much technical data as possible---avg. air speed during Atlantic crossing. Alt? Sailor EPIRB working only on VHF, usual to monitor that channel? Supposedly aircraft was first to show new desert camo paint job; after Germany, plane headed to spec. op base in Egypt, where she was thereafter based. Engines? Stall speed? And more. All help appreciated. Want to get this story right.
