In an August update at AMARG noticed, 64-0499-probably beer cans- and 65-0979- an NC-130H are no longer listed. Also it looks like the sale of 6 USMC KC-130R's to Japan is going ahead. 160015 is no longer listed and 160016, 017, 018,020 are no longer in storage. Bob AMARG_Inventory_08.pdf

First LM-100J (c/n 5818 )Commercial Freighter Taking Shape Components for the first LM-100J commercial freighter version of Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Hercules airlifter are being manufactured, with final assembly to begin in Marietta, Georgia, later this year. The aircraft is scheduled to fly in early 2017, and the FAA certification flight-test program is expected to take 12 months, says Ray Fajay, vice president of business development for air mobility, special forces and maritime programs. The first aircraft will then be delivered to an unnamed customer after certification. None have been identified, but Faray says Lockheed has both launch customers and…

VMGR234 at JRB Ft Worth has traded in all their KC-130T's. Three were sold as I understand, 162786 and 163022 to the PI, and 162785 to Argentina. The rest scattered about to the USN and USMCR. VMGR234 had received, last I heard, 5 J's and were supposed to get 7 more. 165739, 166473, 167111, 168073 and 169018 were there. New question, recently seen at Lockgreed KC-130T 169225. I had heard it was for 234 QH but instead it is painted BH? Anyone, maybe NATOPS, know the real story? Thanks Bob

I was wondering if anyone had any info, pictures and specs on a propeller cage or prop house. I'm trying to gather all info available so we can get one built for our deployed location for use in the winter time. It is used to do prop maintenance and lifted up by a forklift. It is mentioned in the 61JG10-1 and then refers you to the 00GE. Below is the excerpt; These cages (figure 5-127.1) are mounted to a forklift and can have a variety of maintenance aids installed, depending on local conditions and procedures. Figure 5-127.1 is a notional depiction of a propeller cage and is not intended as an engineering drawing for manufacture. Units must develop local operating …

The Post-Warthog Plan —Brian Everstine The Air Force is adjusting its original plan for replacing Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve A-10s after several failed attempts to divest the fleet. A new Force Structure Action plan based on the Fiscal 2017 budget request details what Guard and Reserve units will fly once they lose their A-10s. USAF now plans to begin replacing the venerable Warthogs on a "squadron-by-squadron" basis in Fiscal 2018. The final aircraft is slated to retire in 2022 after the F-35 comes on line. For example, in 2018, the Reserve A-10 unit at Whiteman AFB, Mo., and the Guard unit at Fort Wayne ANGS, Ind., will both transfer to F-16s. In…

The rumor of the 181 AS damage got me thinking about flying safety. Going back I can come up with 32 AFR C-130 units-now 12 and 36 ANG units-now 24. I'll try to do the active duty units later. Of the 12 AFR units still flying only 2 have had accidents. 95 AS had 2 both in Honduras 56-0501 an A in 1985 and 88-4408 an H in 1997. 731AS had 1 62-1838 in Idaho in 1995. Of the 12 units 9 have been accident free for 33 years or more and of those 96AS has been 46 years, 328AS 45 years, 815AS 43 years. Of the 24 ANG units still flying, only 4 have had accidents, 156AS 93-1458 an H,firefighting in South Dakota, in 2012, 154TRS 61-2373 an E in 1988, at Greenville MS,w…

Being out of the loop for so long, it is hard to keep up on the USAF changes. There have been lots of changes in the Herk community lately. Associate units at Cheyenne, Elmendorf and Pete have closed and their UE reduced to 8. 327 AS at LRF has closed or almost closed and the last I heard, they went from 17 to 2 Herks. The Guard and Reserve have been shuffling Herks to put similar model Herks in the same units. The older H2's have started to retire to the Boneyard. They are threatening to close the 95 AS and 2 AS at Pope again, and I just read a proposal to try to bring C-17's to Pitt to replace the Herks. From what I have been able to f…

Evidently Lockheed Martin Aeronautics presents milestone pins and certificates for C-130 pilots and crew members who log 1,000; 2,000; 5,000; and 10,000 hours on a C-130. If you’re a current or former C-130 operator and would like to receive an award for your flight hours, you can fill out this form and email/send it to Kelly Shiple, who can also be reached at +1 770-494-9189. Not sure but attached picture may be what the 1000 hour pin looks like. Ooops I searched and this was already posted by Llecrupt Aug 2012 http://www.c-130hercules.net/forums/topic/5415-flying-hour-milestone-pins-contact-at-lockheed/?do=findComment&comment=24705 …

Hey I finally figured out how to add a picture, I think. Hope this works. I saw 2 interesting pics on the net yesterday. One was taken at Las Palmas Peru a suburb of Lima. It shows a Herk nose outside what I loosely translate as the Institute of Aerospace Medicine. I'm guessing an A or D as all Peru's L-100's had no lower windows. Anyone know which one? The other pic shows 162309 still with QH on the tail but sporting the number on the front. Last I heard it was at Point Mugu River and should have a tail code ED Bob

On November 16th HC-130H CGNR 1504 (c/n 4529) was sold to International Air Response for $317,025 and has been moved from Coast Guard property. The aircraft had been offered for sale via the US General Services Administration (GSA) and had been stripped of much of its equipment including engines and structural components. It had been located at the Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center aboard Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City, North Carolina. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucbdcls/?sl=91QSCI16078301
