A really great interview with Martin Oxborrow who flew the C-130 for the RAF, he was also one of the stars on the BBC series 'Fighter Pilot' which followed hopeful RAF officers.

The rumor of the 181 AS damage got me thinking about flying safety. Going back I can come up with 32 AFR C-130 units-now 12 and 36 ANG units-now 24. I'll try to do the active duty units later. Of the 12 AFR units still flying only 2 have had accidents. 95 AS had 2 both in Honduras 56-0501 an A in 1985 and 88-4408 an H in 1997. 731AS had 1 62-1838 in Idaho in 1995. Of the 12 units 9 have been accident free for 33 years or more and of those 96AS has been 46 years, 328AS 45 years, 815AS 43 years. Of the 24 ANG units still flying, only 4 have had accidents, 156AS 93-1458 an H,firefighting in South Dakota, in 2012, 154TRS 61-2373 an E in 1988, at Greenville MS,w…

Being out of the loop for so long, it is hard to keep up on the USAF changes. There have been lots of changes in the Herk community lately. Associate units at Cheyenne, Elmendorf and Pete have closed and their UE reduced to 8. 327 AS at LRF has closed or almost closed and the last I heard, they went from 17 to 2 Herks. The Guard and Reserve have been shuffling Herks to put similar model Herks in the same units. The older H2's have started to retire to the Boneyard. They are threatening to close the 95 AS and 2 AS at Pope again, and I just read a proposal to try to bring C-17's to Pitt to replace the Herks. From what I have been able to f…

Looking to connect with any vets that may have served on c-130's, 1968-69 in Vietnam ?(Da Nang & Cam Rahn Bay air bases) Also, any vets that served on c-130's, 1970-1975 in the Phillipines? Doing some research into time specific C-130's for a painting. Thanks!

Evidently Lockheed Martin Aeronautics presents milestone pins and certificates for C-130 pilots and crew members who log 1,000; 2,000; 5,000; and 10,000 hours on a C-130. If you’re a current or former C-130 operator and would like to receive an award for your flight hours, you can fill out this form and email/send it to Kelly Shiple, who can also be reached at +1 770-494-9189. Not sure but attached picture may be what the 1000 hour pin looks like. Ooops I searched and this was already posted by Llecrupt Aug 2012 http://www.c-130hercules.net/forums/topic/5415-flying-hour-milestone-pins-contact-at-lockheed/?do=findComment&comment=24705 …

Hey I finally figured out how to add a picture, I think. Hope this works. I saw 2 interesting pics on the net yesterday. One was taken at Las Palmas Peru a suburb of Lima. It shows a Herk nose outside what I loosely translate as the Institute of Aerospace Medicine. I'm guessing an A or D as all Peru's L-100's had no lower windows. Anyone know which one? The other pic shows 162309 still with QH on the tail but sporting the number on the front. Last I heard it was at Point Mugu River and should have a tail code ED Bob

On November 16th HC-130H CGNR 1504 (c/n 4529) was sold to International Air Response for $317,025 and has been moved from Coast Guard property. The aircraft had been offered for sale via the US General Services Administration (GSA) and had been stripped of much of its equipment including engines and structural components. It had been located at the Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center aboard Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City, North Carolina. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucbdcls/?sl=91QSCI16078301

Re the news article about the Living Room Drop My VP Bob Radley and I were the loadmasters on this project. Aircraft was International Air Response N118TG (ex-RC-130A 57-0512), shot in November at the Jameson Tank DZ at Coolidge, AZ. There were three identical living rooms, each weighing about 2,500 pounds. All were gravity ejected using CDS flaps settings. Basically around 10 percent or flaps up, depending on the weight at drop time. A simple release consisted of a loop of 1-inch tubular webbing through a centerline floor tiedown ring, manually cut at "Green Light". Drops 1 and 3 had no parachutes. On drop 2, a Wamore GPS guided (JPADS) chute was used. Jeff…

The main reason this video is called Angel Flight is visual. When the plane releases its decoy missiles, as is shown in several of the pictures, it creates an Angel shape in the smoke. But it is much more than just visual. See for yourself. Listen to the words of the pilot and the tower, and make sure you sit quietly and listen to the very end. This is beautiful. God bless our Veterans! Click here: " A…

Just read the Robins article. Years ago we used to take herks to Fairchild at St Pete, Hayes later PEMCO at BHM and Aero Corp at Lake City for IRAN later PDM. All those facilities are closed and the only places I have heard lately for PDM are Robins and Hill and places overseas. Does anyone else do Herk PDMs in the US anymore? Bob

Airman dies following training mission Kyle Daly, [email protected] 11:55 p.m. ChST December 14, 2015 (Photo: US Air Force 374th Airlift Wing) A Japan-based U.S. airman died Sunday at Andersen Air Force Base, following a training mission, according to the military. The airman “was found unresponsive during post flight inspections,” an Air Force press release states. The cause of death is under investigation. The service member was from the 374th Airlift Wing based at Yokota Air Base in Japan. Yokota airmen were on island to take part in the a…

I posted this under general info but wanted to get it in front of more folks I recently found a folder that contained my flight logs from most of my flights as a loadmaster. I have figured out a few of the mission symbols but a couple I don't know. 01A is combat mission T3 is training but can some one tell me what A1, A5, A4, 03, and T2 are?? Using my travel vouchers and these flight records I have almost reconstructed my missions as a loadmaster...

I just now got around to reading about the "J" model that was declared a total loss (even though they flew it home) and something troubles me about that write up. There was mention of pilot confusion due to being struck by loose equipment. Back in the stone age when I was a wee airman working post dock at Pope there was a test pilot and his crew that preformed a test flight after the aircraft was pulled from the dock; I forget what dock inspection it was (hours of flight, etc.), but it was an extensive visit to the dock. Anyway, that AC wouldn't move the aircraft 'till every piece of moveable equipment was secure, including the navigators paper and pencil. Makes me wonder…

Hello, I am a contractor working for a C-130 Program Office and someone out on base asked if I could order 20 copy's of the 30th edition (or the most recent) of the Lars Olausson Lockheed Hercules Production List. It appears that book is no longer in production. I was wondering if some one out there would be willing to part with a copy for a short while, so that I may get copy's made for the guys on base. Or if you are willing to sell a copy, I can probably work something out. Thank You
