Could anyone clear up my confusion about USCG Herks. I just read a good article in AFM about the USCG. They are getting 13 or 14 C-27's. An Admiral said that was enough aircraft for three CG Air Stations. The article said the first HC-27's would go to Sacramento. Right now they have 4 CGAS's with HC-144's Mobile, Corpus, Miami and Otis. They have 5 CGAS's with Herks. Elizabeth City with J's and Kodiak getting J's and three with H's Clearwater, Barbers Point, and Sacramento. I know 7 Herks are going to the USFS. What about all the other H's? Are the HC-27's replacing the Herks or are they opening up new bases? Would HC-27's have the range required to operate out of Bar…

One of the links about Gaddafi's undelivered C130S was interesting and I Googled the views showing them. Pretty interesting photos for sure. In the most Southern area photo there are 4 of the 130s and what appears to be a 1011 and possibly a C124? Can anyone advise me? The co ordinates for the photo I'm speaking of is 33.900381 84.516535.

I was wondering if PACAF will replace their current H model C-130s with newer airplanes?. I ran into a 36th AS crewmember in 2009 who stated his unit was slated to receive Js,but with funding cuts, this has not so far happened. Maybe if a C-130J unit is disbanding at Little Rock, the displaced airplanes will replace the 1970s era C-130Hs at Yokota?.

On Google Earth there is a C-130 fuselage visible on the north side, parked next to the C-5 mock-up. Can anyone confirm its identity please? I see that 63-7791 is listed as a trainer at Dobbins, so this could be a candidate I guess. Andy

From AF Magazine C-130Es Eyed for Bangladesh: The Pentagon notified Congress of a possible $180 million foreign military sale of four regenerated C-130E transports and associated parts, equipment, and training to Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government has requested the sale of the four US Air Force baseline C-130Es, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency's May 22 release. The United States would provide 20 Rolls-Royce T56AA engines for the aircraft as excess defense articles, states the release. The proposed sale would help the Bangladesh air force to modernize its aging transport fleet, it states. The BAF would use the C-130Es "to respond more capably to hu…

I was sitting here, and I started looking back at my life and a question came to mind. I now want to ask all a three part question: How many of you have slept on top of a C-130? How many of you have slept in a C-130? How many of you have slept under a c-130? Please tell why and where. Thanks in Advance.

The Lingering Story of Agent Orange January 2015 By John T. Correll AF Magazine The assumption in the 1960s was that the use of herbicides in Vietnam did not pose a significant danger. The UC-123K tactical transport known as “Patches†got its name the hard way. The aircraft was held together nose to tail with repairs to the battle damage inflicted by almost 600 hits from enemy ground gunners in Vietnam... See link for the rest of the story...rather lengthy. http://www.airforcemag.com/MagazineArchive/Pages/2015/January%202015/The-Lingering-Story-of-Agent-Orange.aspx Free Itunes download of the book "USAF C-123 Veterans: VA Illegally Denies Agent Ora…

As a retired ol Herky mechanic I enjoyed watching news and events about other units that had the 130 and how we had interacted with each other. After I had left the Air National Guard most units were getting brand new models of the 130 and most units appeared to have a choice of the tail number assigned such as Charlotte NC with XX1451, XX1561 and Mansfield, Ohio with XX1791 etc. Later I saw that the 130 fleet from Mansfield had transitioned to some foreign made twin engine copy of the 130. It must have been a piece of junk as I understand the Mansfield unit now has the real C130 back. Wondered if they managed to get their original tail numbers back?

C-130 Designation Question
by Guest- 9 replies

I have been working on a new page for the site that breaks down C-130 designations. http://www.c-130hercules.net/C-130reference/C-130DesignationInfo.php I think I have it nailed down thus far but I do have a few questions: Some aircraft have/had a suffix preceded by a dash, e.g. C-130A-II and C-130E-II. Can someone explain? I have also seen some aircraft with a suffix in parenthesis, e.g. HC-130H(N). Can someone explain? Lastly I have seen some EC-130Es referred to as EC-130E(RR) and EC-130E(CL). Where these actual designations or just used to illustrate Rivet Rider vs. Rivet Clamp modified aircraft? --Casey

I was trying to update my list of Herks in Museums or on display. Can anyone help with these questions? I looked on the net at the Hurlburt Museum and a site said that 84-0476 an MC-130H was in the Hurlburt Airpark. Last I heard it was still flying? 65-0994 MC-130P was supposed to go into the Hurlburt Airpark. Has it? 65-0988 HC-130P was supposed to go on display at Moody. Has it? 62-1801 C-130E was reported as going to Fort Campbell. Did it? Thanks for any help. Bob BTW if anyone has pics of these, could you post them?

I knew of some ex USAF Herks and some civilian Herks being there years ago but nothing recent. The picture says Sept 2013. I don't have a clue, can anyone help. Bob I do wonder if it was an old pic, with an incorrect date?

I did like the go around. the load master got in the seat and he did a lot a lot better than I did

A lot of us know Lars Olausson, the foremost expert on the C-130. I just got a sad note from his daughter Nina about his condition. "Lars is not very well and doesn't manage to handle the computer any more. He suffers from some kind of dementia and physicly he is tired and frail. Gudrun is all right though, considering. She takes care of him very good but it is tiring of course. None of us children (Fredrik, Ulla and I) live very close but try to visit as often as possibly. Fredrik often spends part of the weekends at the parents house. I'm sorry to bring you these bad news." Bob
