I stumbled on this little bit of humor and thought I would share it with you guys. WARNING!! You might want to be a little thick skinned and not easily offended or politically correct for this, you where warned. Ha-Ha just click on this link to see what a crew chief is, sorry it seems to be for the suck and blow type plane crew dogs but still good. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Crew_Chiefs#Famous_Crew_Chiefs

The B-36J was a state of the art airplane in its day. The Engineer was responsible for starting, maintaining and shutting down the 6 Radial Engines and 4 Jet Engines required to make it fly and mission completed. No modern "Fly by Wire" or "Computer controlled Aircraft" involved here. Just straight old manpower, brainpower and the guts to get it done. This is absolutely mind boggling to think about. http://www.nmusafvirtualtour.com/media/062/B-36J%20Engineer.html

Well, I’ve exhausted my resources so I figured I would ask this group. I’m trying to track down an old TCTO number. I believe it was issued in the early to mid 70s but I’ve looked and talked to people in the SPO and can’t find anything. The TCTO deals with the engine QEC kit upper longerons. There are pockets in the longeron and the pockets had drain holes installed on the forward ends, the problem was the drain holes were drilled in the wrong position and still allowed the pocket to collect water, thus causing corrosion. The TCTO instructed technicians to go in an apply sealant into the radius of each pocket to act as a damn and force the water back to the d…

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a slightly unusual request. I'm a screenplay writer based in London and I'm currently putting the finishing touches to a script where all the action takes place inside a C130. The problem is, I have absolutely no knowledge of aviation whatsoever and have written myself into a bit of a corner so I'm desperately hoping someone might be able to help me out of it! The film is a real-time thriller, set entirely in flight (I'll spare you details unless you really want to hear them!) and our hero needs to communicate with the ground - the problem is, communications have been compromised due to gunfire on board (…

JATO mount points 1 2

On another forum I frequent an aviation nugget discussion is going on. One of the questions was about the number of T-handles on the herk. In the discussion someone asked about the JATO T-handles which in turn question which Herks have them. Some Navy/Marine experienced people seemed to say they had mount points on later Herks. Late model Marine Tankers? I was mostly under the assumption they quit putting them on the Herks with the "H" models but I can't remember if they were there on the FY73 Hs or the FY74 Hs. AFAIK none of the H2s or later had them with the exception of the LCs. Correct?

Google custom search on the main page does a good job of finding information, but is there a way to find acronym descriptions without leaving C-130 Hercules .net and searching the WEB? Attached is a list of some acronyms that I found on C-130 Hercules .net Maybe the list could be expanded and be added to the Forum: Tips and Tricks section. Many acronyms are well known, for example USAF, Sgt, FU, but many related to C-130’s / aircraft are unique. A list might help 'just enlisted' or non-military guests figure out what were talking about. Repost if you want to add to, update or change the list…. Great Planes

Watching a Great Planes episode on Smithsonian Channel about the C-17. They dropped some troops and were then supposed to go back, land and pick the troops up. After the drop, they got an engine low oil warning and aborted back to Anchorage. The commentator said "with the C-17 out, the tower has to send another airplane to pick up the stranded troops"... and they showed a C-130 taxiing out!!! Love it!! I always said when the last C141 went to the boneyard, a C-130 would follow along to pick up the crew... (when I was flying, there were still 141s out there)...

Can anyone update us on LRF? I think the AETC is still clear; 48 AS J models and 62 AS H's from ARF units But 19AW confuses me. I think 41 AS has J's, last I heard 50 AS had 92 and 93 H models, and 53 and 61 had 74 H models from Dyess. Some of the 92-93 H's have gone to Dobbins and the some 74 H models went to CT, MT and the Afghans. So who is flying what now? Thanks Bob

Hello everybody, every now and then raises a question, which I am unable to solve with the available resources in the internet. There come my friends in this forum... :-) Flap lever: Does the flap lever have idents? Why ist the flap lever mounted so far aft in the center pedestal? On pictures of the 130J cockpit it looks very uncomfortable/unergonomic to handle the lever. Cursor device: Looks like a fixed joystick....what is the purpose of the cursor device? Are there any cursors used in th MFDs? What are the functions of the buttons? Coolie hats? Are there buttons on lower side (aka firebutton)? Thanks in advance, greetings from Bavaria and an joyous 2014 …

I just read that 537 AS has closed at the Dorf, due to losing 4 Herks. Has anyone heard if 345 AS at Keesler will close when the J's go to Pope? Thanks Bob Just found this: In addition to the loss of aircraft, the Force Structure Action Implementation Plan indicated that the 815th Airlift Squadron and their active duty partners, the 345th Airlift Squadron at Keesler Air Force Base would have closed their doors.
