I found this video. Does anyone know any thing about this plane, tail number, why and from where it was scrapped etc.? I'm not sure what I think about this. I guess it's better than being turned into beer cans, but just don't seem right somehow......

Just came across a 5 min. clip of the 130s being built at "How Stuff Works". For those who haven't toured the Herk plant it gives a thumb nail view of the operation. Also on U Tube , type in C-130 and scroll down to "C-130 Hercules Progress Report 1955" ...13 very interesting minutes on building and testing the "New Herk". Bill P.S. can anyone post a link?

Hi All, I have been working on trying to list all the Herks that have been preserved in Museums or on static display. There are about 60 that I found. I’ll try to attach the list. I am also listing any URL links and trying to add pictures of the aircraft on display. I could use some help with some pictures. 3606 Display at Santa Lucia AB Mexico City 3116 A-1301 Indonesia AF Museum Bandung 3546 62-1789 McChord AFB Museum. I last heard it was not on display yet. 3736 65-0988 Display at Moody AFB 4143 A97-011 Point Cook Museum Australia 4791 Thanks Bob Museums.xls

Guys, one of our own, Sparks, is experiencing some really serious medical issues with his son. Without a lot of details, let me say the whole family is in for quite a difficult stretch. I met him, and spent four days with him at the 316th reunion last June, and he is a top drawer guy........Let's all do whatever we find appropriate to give support and comfort. I know he would do the same for us. Sparks, you ain't alone!!!!!!!!!! load clear Giz

I was sent the following pictures through FB with the following caption: U.S. Soldiers with the 731st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, attached to Task Force Vanguard, place explosives on the wings of an unserviceable C-130 Hercules aircraft in order to remove the wings and move the aircraft off the airfield at Forward Operating Base Shank, Logar province, Afghanistan, July 9, 2013. [u.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Elvis Umanzor] I was wondering if anybody knew what happen? Said way to end an aircraft's time.

It's all too infrequent that I hear comments like what I heard this afternoon and I want to pass along a heart warming story. Stopped in at the local "monument" store to check up on the headstone that Mary and I ordered for our cemetery plot as I'm having the image of the C-130 engraved on it. In the course of the conversation, the owner, about my age (somewhat ancient), says to me; "That's a C-130, right? Yes, reply's I. He says: I was a young Army officer in Vietnam in 1968, and whenever we climbed into a 130 we knew we were safe. You guy's were great, and the C-130 was a safe haven for us. We army guys loved it....... says a lot, huh!?!?

Saw this pic on the net today. Says it was of 63-9815 at Duke Field 1115 MAS in 1973. Anyone know anything about this aircraft, the squadron or its mission? I think I remember seeing this aircraft at Howard in the 70's when I was on rote there. Bob

This pic was on the net with a couple of other pics of Polish 1505. It was titled “Cockpit shot of 1505â€. I zoomed it and the two radio plates on the glareshield said 10935. Obviously 68-10935 but 1505 is supposed to be 70-1276 and 68-10935 according to the USAF is an air evac trainer in WV. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

My wife and I recently made a trip to Davis Monthan AFB near Tucson Arizona. I felt the need to visit some of the planes I have worked on that are no longer in use and can be found only in Museums. I took 547 photos of planes in the Private Junkyards near the base, on the bus tour of the Boneyard and the Pima Air and Space Museum. I am posting some of the Herks I saw on the trip. I was also amazed at the number of planes I have never seen before. The 1st photo was taken while we were at one of the private junkyards. It was doing touch and goes and I decided to take a photo of it. My Wife made a comment about the Shark's mouth painted on it. I informed her that they d…

Hey guys and girls I am flirting with the idea of getting out of AD and trying my hand at being an FE on 130's. I have 8 years in as a crew chief on c-5's and will be going to mildenhall to work on the afsoc 130's for 3 years. I love being a crew chief but I wouldn't mind living somewhere permanently. So if any one wants to give their 2 cents on this matter please feel free to lay it down. Last but not least I would really love to live in col springs working for the col reserves. Thanks in advance for any and all help on this matter. -Matt

I watched the new movie World War Z the other day. In the movie Brad Pitt hitches a ride from a aircraft carrier on a C-130, as it's taking off it's a AN-12. Through out the movie the C-130 scene jumps back and forth between the two aircraft. I guess they need to fire the mil advisor.

Lately I've seen several videos and still photos of Heavy Equipment drops and I have noticed that the anchor cable arms are retracted during the drop. When I was doing this (1966-79) the checklist said to put the arms down as soon as the ramp and door were open... what's up?? - Did they change the procedure? JimH C130 LM/ILM 1966-1979

With the recent outbreak of fires in Colorado the 302nd Airlift Wing was activated and will start flying missions against the "Black Forest" fire just north/northeast of Colorado Springs. As of this morning the fire was estimated at 8,500 acres and has destroyed 40 to 60 homes. Last year they were fighting the "Waldo Canyon" fire around the same time of year. Another one right in their own "backyard" Seems like fire season gets earlier and earlier each year in the West. There are currently 5 fires in Colorado this morning, with temps in the upper 90's to 100's, low humidity! 73, Rex
