Big article in this months Air Force Asso. mag about the AC-130W Stinger gunship getting 4 small diameter bombs under each wing(SDB) for a limited standoff precision strike capability. Also says they are testing Hellfire missles on the bird. Now THAT will be a kickbuttski gunship. The mag and article can also be accessed online. Waiting for pics. Bill

Our General confirmed what we thought was just a rumor. Since Pope already has hangers built for the J, the AF is planning on taking the J-s that were going to Dobbins and ship them to us at KPOB and send our H2's to Dobbins. He sad it just has to get approved by congress. They said it would save a lot of money since they would not have to build anymore buildings. Anybody else hear anything about this?

What is everyone's take on whether the rescue C-130s should be ACC or SOC? Personally, I thought they needed to be SOC. I think SOC understands the mission better and supports them better as well. But I'm an outsider and am not all that familiar with all the ins and outs. Thoughts?

There are several different tail flash colors of 19th Air Wing C-130's from the "Rock". What colors represent a particular squadron? During the last 2 months, "Rock" C-130's have visited Reno with red, green, white and I believe yellow tail flashes.

With the transition from E's to J's there are a couple of guys loosing jobs. Where are they going? Are the FE's moved into maintenance positions? What about the poor Navigators who are replaced by a GPS unit? What is their future? We must be talking about hundreds of men looking for work.

Hey all! I spotted these two PR C-130's departing NAS Fort Worth today...old birds...I have read that PR is getting rid of the E's. Were these headed to AMARC? or just normal movements? I've never seen PR birds here before. Thanks, Zane 64-0515 64-0544

Heard at a briefing at TAC (Oops ACC) last week that 65-0967 is at Waco being converted to an EC-130H for DM. Also heard a rumor that 64-14859, also at Waco, may be being converted to an EC-130H possibly for Israel? Bob

Bob or anyone, do you know what the 2 C-130 tail numbers are that are stored behind the SLEP hangers at Lockheed? I see them as I drive down So. Cobb but can't see any numbers. One has the wings and vert fin removed and the other looks complete. They are due east of the big B-1 building or 33d 55' 47.13''N x 84d 31' 27.81" W. Bill

MARIETTA, Ga., Sept. 28, 2012 - At ceremonies here yesterday, the Royal Norwegian Air Force formally accepted a C-130J Super Hercules for the aircraft that was tragically lost in March of this year. Through strong cooperation between the Governments of the United States and Norway, a C-130J originally destined for Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, was redirected to become the replacement aircraft. Tony Frese (left), C-130 Norwegian Program director discusses the J-model with Brigadier General Frode R Flølo (right), Chief of the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation - Air System Division, who accepted the aircraft. Anyone for framenumber serial and FMS? regards Denni…

The 317th Airlift Group at Dyess AFB, Tex., took delivery of its 23rd factory-fresh C-130J transport, leaving the unit only five airframes shy of its planned full complement of Super Hercules airplanes. The new aircraft arrived at the Texas base on Sept. 13, piloted by Brig. Gen. Lee Levy, Air Mobility Command's director of logistics. Dyess is expected to receive it remaining five C-130Js by 2013, according to base officials. The new airlift force will replace the group's legacy fleet of C-130Hs. Once the final Super Hercules is in place, Dyess will be home to the largest C-130J force in the world, said the officials. The group received its 22nd C-130J on Aug. 29.

Goodbye, Old Friend: Members of the 79th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., executed the unit's final mission in the HC-130P personnel recovery airplane. The squadron is transitioning to the new, more capable HC-130J model and expects to commence operations with it in October, according to a base release. The final HC-130P sortie came on Sept. 12 as a crew took the aircraft out for roughly seven hours, states the release. Upon landing, squadron colleagues and family members greeted the crew on the flightline to mark the occasion. Lt. Col. Christopher McCarthy, a 563rd Rescue Group instructor pilot, who was the aircraft commander on the sortie, said he thinks the…
