WARNER ROBINS -- For the first time in its 29-year history, the Museum of Aviation is downsizing. The museum is getting rid of 29 planes and three missiles, which is about a third of its total collection. Museum Director Ken Emery said the move is largely due to Air Force personnel cuts in 2011 that eliminated eight civilian positions at the museum, most of whom were restoration specialists. The museum doesn’t have enough personnel to properly maintain the aircraft, especially those outdoors, Emery said. “We’ve only been growing since we started,†Emery said last week as he showed some of the planes slated for removal. “This is really the first time w…

I was in the 556th in Japan in 1970 and71. I am looking for any pictures of a RC130B. If anyone can help me find some, that would be great. It doesn't matter if they are free or if I have to buy them.

Sam, what would you advise a guy to do with old stories. I've written down a few over the yrs about various C-130 incidents, screwups, accidents and Pho-pa's. I'd love to share them. I'm not an author like you & don't have that many anyway. But I bet they'd be fun to read for somebody out there. Your advise pls ? Thnx

So I was looking at some gallery photos a few days ago and came across some that had a wiper on the center W/S. What is the nature of the mission that required a third wiper?

Just started reading the book and I am amazed how TAC seemed to have no regard for its people in those early days of the 50' and 60's. People and machines were moved around without any regard it seems to the well being of the folks. Coming from a pretty stable SAC in 1966 I found that PACAF and later TAc itself still seemed to have no regard for the airmen even until I retired in 75. Being assigned to troop carrier in the 50's and 60's had to be hell.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we took another E model to the boneyard yesterday. 7786 flew in great and we landed A-1 (wouldn't you know it). We only have about 4 left here at Little Rock. (1289, 2358, 1792, and 9815 I believe). Dave

Not sure if this thread should be here or in the technical section, so Casey can move it anywhere he wants. The photo below is the FE panel for Tepper's N2731G (4582), or whatever its numbers are now. I say N2731G because all of their other Hercs have a real APU. This one has the Boeing 727 aftermarket APU and still has the fire handle labeled GTC. Anyway, the most glaring thing I noticed is that there's only one inverter. WTF? I know I've been out of the Herc loop for a while, but I've never seen this. I heard many, many years ago that Southern Air Transport had a Herc with no inverters. Never saw that, though. It also appears that #2 main tank might be off scale high…

I just thought of something The gubbermint needs money The boneyard has oodles of Herks and starlizards write your congrescritter and get them to pass a law authorizing sales of non demilled aircraft to the general public, that could result in BILLIONS in income. A historical note, until JFK/LBJ, joe citizen could go to any of the boneyards and buy any aircraft in there; that program was stopped for reasons unknown in 1963, its time to open it back up again and see more Herks hitting the sky. What do ya think
