I received the message below via the Contact US e-mail account. Do any of you remember Ben Sager? Please help if you can. Casey Hi! My name is Becky Sager and I'm desperately searching for folks who served with my husband in the Air Force during Vietnam. He is ill and has undergone many surgeries and is trying to get compensation from the VA, but they say his records don't show his actual service while he was in Vietnam. The VFW and other organizations suggested we search for people who served with him. He was in the Air Force and was in the 21 TAS, Naha AB, Okinawa (PACAF) during July 1, 1967 thru May 3, 1968 and was assigned to the ground crew on Aircraft (C…

Some good news. After years of rumors that 57-0520 (ex-Tanker 88, ex-N138FF) c/n 3227 was to be scrapped, I'm pleased to report that after more than a year of hard work and flight prep, it's just about in shape for a ferry flight from Coolidge, AZ (P08) to its home at Williams-Gateway Airport (KIWA) for painting and installation of avionics and the A/A32H-4A Cargo Handling System (Dual Rails), etc. It now has the FAA registration N119TG. For the past 20 years or more, it's been the property of International Air Response (IAR) and has been pretty much derelict. With increasing work available in oil spill dispersal spraying, IAR made the decision to make another aircraft …

Aircraft Data Legend or Technical Data block Anyone know where aircraft ID, s/n, manufactures information plate was located on the various C-130 models? What was detailed? I searched the WEB and can’t find an example or picture of one. Eventually in the early 90’s T.O 1-1-4 states that it was a Technical Data Block and could be either on the fuselage side or near the ground-refueling receptacle. Where is / was it on an A thru J?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/16/lockheed-transport-idUSL1N12G02H20151016 Wonder where they are headed? If half go to USAF and half are split between USCG and USMC- Are the Yokota airplanes included? If Yokota takes 20, then 3 ANG/AFRC units would get Js. With all the airplane shuffles lately, would that mean Mansfield, CT and MT? Although I think MT is getting Savannah's H2s.

I am thinking about taking a road trip to Sheppard. Is anyone on the board stationed there now? I'd like to check out the herks and take some pictures. I have my current military ID. Also does anyone know either the telephone number or an e mail address for the contractors office that controls the herks? Thanks Bob

Read in the LM Code One mag where the AF sent 26 Herks to the beer can factory this year. GRRRRR. Here is the count: 11 MC-130H/P, 6 HC-130P, 4 AC-130H, 1 AC-130U, 4 C-130 H. Sad end for these great birds. I hear they are designing the final version of the Herk at the skunk works.... It will have 1 pilot and a DOG as the only crew members. The dog is there to bite the pilot if he touches anything. Bill

I don't know if I have posted this photo on here or not - I don' think I have. I took it at Recife, Brazil in July or August 1965. It's one of the first A-models. It went to Systems Command and when I saw it was being used to support downrange missile shots from Patrick. If you want to make prints from it, feel free.

A few days ago Sam and I had a bit of a discussion regarding the time frame (Vietnam) that our 314th Herks were painted "camo". I can't find that post so I'll start another right here. I thought I had several pictures to attach but could, readily, find just a few and unfortunately only one of them I can put an exact date, that is pic #1 taken 18 Jan. 1966. We moved the 28th infantry inland (to Ben Hoa, I think), know later as the Nha Trang Shuttle. I was assistant crew chief assigned to 877, but I was also assigned to MOS. So I'm not sure if the bird shown is 877 or not. This is where a lot of us maint types got screwed. A lot of us were assigned aircraft, but the powers …

The boot necks used to have several KC-130T-30s (Stretch) that operated out of Newburgh, NY and I believe Fort Worth (Carswell), TX. I did the initial extraction/deployment of the UAV for the Killer Herk program (UAV is extracted, flies down range, identifies target, the Herk launches a Hellfire, target destroyed, high fives, RTB for beers) out of one of the birds from Newburgh back in 09. Great crew. Those birds were never podded for AR and were just used to haul ass, trash and conduct airdrop. It's my understanding that they were transferred over to the Navy and been re-designated as C-130T-30s. Does anyone know their current location and disposition?

The skidding of the Turkish Airlines Airbus-330 at Kathmandu runway in Mar 2015, rendered the Kathmandu runway and airport unusable since it obstructed the use of full length of the runway. With only about 4000’ of landing distance available at an elevation of about 4500’, the Indian Air Force Herc was called upon for the rescue mission! The IAF Herc airlifted the Air Inflatable Bags & the rescue team from Mumbai to Kathmandu and stopped just short of the Airbus to aid the rescue. ‘Teşekkür Ederim’ from Turkey!

In January, the first AC-130H to AMARG 69-6570 arrived and another MC-130P 69-5823 arrived. Also interesting the only USAF C-130H in AMARG 74-2062 left. To where I don't know? Three Herks left: 63-7778 and 68-10934 went to beer cans in Tucson and the last A in AMARG 56-0494 left, probably to beer cans? Bob

A year ago the TCTAA was in Tucson. One of our trips was to Pima. Here are a few pictures. The people standing next to the A-model are me and Bob Steele, who was in the 35th with me at Naha 66-67. (That airplane needs paint!) Bob Steele is in the first photo in the preceding post. Here are some more photos from Pima. The individual is Mike Schmid, 35th TCS LM, the second is Jim Tomlinson and Bob Steele, 35th LMs and the third is Steel and Schmid with Bill Goodall, 374th FMS, in the middle. More TCTAA at Pima - Mike Welch and Ray Snedegar; Steele, Tomlinson and Schmid with Bill Goodall and Jim Esbeck in the background; Mike Schmid, Ralph Bemis…

Haven't been around much at all the past few months. Lots of reasons why, no one reason, but pile them all up and I just haven't made it here. Anyway, last week Wednesday just outside of Butte, Montana I saw something amazing. Two C-130 fuselages each wrapped in blue shrink wrap, each strapped to a BNSF RR flat car headed west. As we were headed east to Columbus and a visit with Ken I did not turn around and follow. Anyone out there (Bob?) have any idea of what was going on? By the way, I did not see any wings, stabilizers, landing gear, etc. tinwhistle aka Chris

Anyone know which one? Robins AFB gets new C-130H for training by Jenny Gordon 78th Air Base Wing Public Affairs 10/9/2015 ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. — An aircraft that had been flying since 1974 has made Robins its final resting place. The September 29 arrival of a retired C-130H will not only enable maintenance professionals across Robins to have a dedicated aircraft for training purposes, but it will be a welcome addition to the two F-15s that no longer have to sit by themselves on the 402nd Aircraft Maintenance Group's aircraft training pad. "This is a huge advantage not just for Warner Robins, but the entire world," said Senior Master Sgt. Shawn Davis, 373r…
