I don't know if I should laugh or be amazed.A fellow on the crew chief site said he was on a C-130E that was at 61K doing HALO drops.I questioned it and he affirmed that was what he said.I spent quite a few years on Herks,The best altitude I was ever at on one was during Apollo13 support off of Samoa we were at 37500.and literally hanging on the props.Anyone ever seen 61k in a C-130?

I know this has come up before, and I swear I saw a drawing of a counterweight made with depleted uranium, but I can't find anything on it now. I even looked up all the old weights from the A model drawings, and no luck. Does anyone know for sure, and have a reference, that uranium was used on the C-130?

Just scanned a slide of one of my buddies at CCK changing a brake on 62-1804. Probably in 1969. His name is John Chase. He was also awarded with a consecutive overseas tour shortly after I received mine! We both were at Naha in the 35th before coming to CCK. Enjoy and remember, Ken

I was looking through some YouTube videos of airdrops and came across a video of Credible Sport. It is a much longer video than the one short one we have all seen of the last landing test which ended in flames. This one shows some more video of landings and takeoffs with the last one a longer version of the one we have all viewed. Not sure if anyone has seen this one or not. I know I haven't. So here is the link:

I watched it on the National Geographics channel last night. I was hopeing they would show more of the planes, specially the C-130,s. They did for an instant flash a couple that had burned out. I left there in Nov. of 66 after a 17 month tour at Naha and where ever else they sent me. I went to Ubon for supposidely 60 days and had to sign a waver that I wouldn\'t take the 30 days off of my tour. When I got there they put me on swing shift tracking down specialest when the planes were about to abort the evening missions. I think I actually stayed there about 7 days and went back to Naha. And yes they did give me that 30 days on my early out, and I didn\'t complain o…

The last active Bomb Live Unit-82 in the Air Force inventory was detonated at the Utah Test and Training Range July 15 with the assistance of the 919th Special Operations Wing from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. \"This BLU-82 was dropped as part of the aging and surveillance program for the weapon,\" said Capt. Andrew Jauhola of the 582nd Missile Maintenance Squadron at Hill Air Force Base. \"The data gathered will give us more information on the shelf life of the explosive used in the weapon.\" The BLU-82, also known as the \"Commando Vault\" bomb or the \"Daisy Cutter\" bomb in reference to its specific nose fuse assembly, was originally designed to clear landing pads…

I got some pictures of 63-7836 when it was at AMARC before it went to the shredder. It seems that it was set up at one time with on board cameras. It was not a Jackpot, MEAFSA, or Berlin for lunch bunch Herk. It seems to have had a normal trash haul career, so the camera set up seems odd. Anyone have any ideas? I\'ll try to attach the pictures. Bob 7836 was deilivered in 64 and was in Navy MATS until 67. It went to Pope in 67 and Little Rock in 75 and AMARC in 94. [img size=800]http://herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/3906_a.jpg

I read in an article that the MC-130W Combat Spear* airplanes, which are modified from H2s, have a reinforced back end to allow the HSLLADS. Does anybody know if the structural beef-up is the same as the Combat Talon I and the Combat Talon II airplanes, with extruded rails and doublers from FS737 to FS1041? *Combat Spear, no longer referred to as Combat Wombat

Folks, I have a question. With the changes going on in the training arena IE- Nashville goes into the forign training business, Dobbins gets out of the training business and Little Rock expands some more, do you think the AF brass took a full look at what this will do to the training thru put of crews? Hear me out before you get stuck on the first paragraph. How long will it take to get the simulators from Dobbins moved to the Rock? How will Nashville do their new mission without a Sim? How long will it take to get contracting to build a simulator facility at Nashville and expand the the facilities at the Rock? What down time in the training community will the…
