Hi C-130 Forum, Can anyone tell me the difference between a Nose Wheel Assembly Part No: 339242-13 and 339242-31. I assume that the dash number references the manufacture of the tire fitted, but I am uncertain. Please could somebody give me some clarification. Many Thanks. DD

Hello all, Statistically speaking, with anti skid turned off using only normal brakes, how likely are we to lock a wheel and blow the tire with light brake applications on landing with a normal paved runway?

I was going thru the H-3 -1 the other night and noticed that there was a TCTO to remove the Engine LCD Gauges on 95-1001 and above ans replace them with analog. I was wondering if that was all of them or just select aircraft and for what reason. Spent some time in the desert with Minnesota a while back with the 95's and I loved those gauges, so much nicer than the analog.

First off, GREAT SITE!!! Now for business... Are there any modifications or upgrades to the C-130E/H platform for the engines? Any engine that can be installed on the C-130 that goes beyond the capabilities the -15 engines currently provide? If there is no follow on engine is there an upgrade kit to the -15 that allow it to perform better, cheaper or higher reliability? The same question can be asked of the current propeller assembly and/or valve housing. I have heard that there is a \"Electronic\" Valve Housing that could replace the analog version currently in service. I am looking for similar updates/upgrades to the following systems: Air Conditionin…

HELLO C-130 WORLD, a few years ago I asked a question concerning FUEL FLOW vs POWER SETTING . most of the our T56-A-15 engine show too much fuel flow in LSGI setting and in MAX REV compared with the charts in the TO 382C-2-3 section 9. in some cases there are also problems on the other settings, normal speed and flight idle. I don't know the Technical manuals other nations use, but it is the test were you have to compare : torque, fuel flow, RPM and TIT. Does any of you guy's, C-130 users, have similar problems ? how do you coop with this problem? is a straight FCU replacement? FF transmitters are calibrated at source of repair! thx 4 coo…

A question came in about why we chain the gear. We know what it says in the Flight Manuals, we have all been taught why we do it but is there anything written down officially or in tech form that says why we chain (or use tie down fitting) for a main gear malfunction.

Anyone know the exact number of turns on the flap manual drive to go full travel? They told us in tech school, but that was almost ten years ago and I've forgotten. That and whenever I try to count I get frustrated around 150 turns and quit.

Does anyone know where i can find the written procedure for jacking. we have a new Capt. that would like to know what kinds of surface you can jack on (concrete, asphalt,"temporary metal matting" (i know thats a def NO), the maximum slope angle (as i understand it, it needs to be a flat solid surface.) If anyone can provide any assistance in this it would be helpful. We've looked in the job guide, the 91-100, 21-101, 1c-130A-3...nothing

On the road and had a scenario where the elevator trim tab fails to operate at altitudes above 15000 ft for an hour or more on Normal AND emergency. Then 10 Minutes after descending to around 6000ft, it works again. We've replaced the motor driven gear box and the problem still appears. Our guess is something has collected water and is freezing but other than throwing new actuators/jack screws and flex drives at it, what could possibly freeze up? We have verified the physical surface isnt rubbing or jamming up, all rigging has been checked and it works perfectly on the ground.

As a -130 pilot, I've noticed some changes that have occured throughout C-130s around the world. One of the things I don't understand is why the position of the upper beacon/strobe was moved to the upper fuselage from the vert. stab? Anybody know why this is? In this position, it is harder to see this beacon/light. On the vert. stab it is much more visible. The funny thing is, certain herks in the USAF have it in on the stab and others have it on the upper fuse? Also, does anyone know the reason for having flashing navigation lights and their real function since we do have a beacon (should be used for running APU/GTC and engines as well as aircraft movement)? Doe…

Is there anything that says an engine run can be performed with a MLG door removed? I know the 71-00-1 pre-engine run inspection checklist says "Closed, Secured," but what about in the event a door is removed?
