I\'m hope someone out there has a sling for a Nose random. We\'re currently getting the new apn 241 mod,(Low power radar) and we don\'t have a sling for mounting the nose. (no more apn 59 Has anyone ever used this, the T.o. Calls for using a dolly, or the sling. the dolly looks like a big bulky item. Really don\'t need anymore of those lying around the AGE yard. I know your going to ask, how did we hang it last time? Answer-- The wrong way. Not following tec data. It\'s kinda funny, we received our new nose for our MC, and everything looks good, when they hung it, they found out it was a nose for an AC, apparently they are very close in size and almost th…

Cannon AFB

I overheard some mutterings about some concerns pertaining to (the future) H-model gunships flying out of Cannon. It has been said that if an airplane is on takeoff from the Cannon altitude on a hot day (typical in the summer months) with a nominal load of ammo and fuel, a hiccup on an engine could spell disaster. Surely, someone in Ops has looked at the numbers and provided an input to the higher command......

Ballast Fuel

Brothers, I am putting together a NATOPS change to include an easy to understand definition of \"Ballast Fuel\". Our NATOPS does not mention it at all. This has been a source of much debate and a soure of confusion to trainees. I am a Little Rock trained FE and was trained on this. The new trainees are not being tought TOLD data the same. My understanding is to use the Fuel Management charts to find the required landing fuel in the wings for a specific cargo weight. Then to get your g load factor and max airspeed. Which is usually only a factor in the decent. I understand that this is usually only a consideration over approx. 30k cargo. Further, my unders…

Here at LRAFB it has become common pratice to remove both flap baffles and allow the aircraft to continue to fly if one or both flap baffles are found to have a rub or be cracked. I guess this does not change the aerodynamic properties of the aircraft with flaps extended or the performance data in any way since STAN/EVAL and maintenance say this is acceptable. This doesn\'t really seem right to me but I can\'t find a reference in any publication that says it can\'t fly in this configuration. I have looked in the flight manual, lockheed manuals, 27JG, and every other publication I could think of. Kind of seems like flying with a panel missing, does anyone have any refe…

Nose Radome Anti-Ice
by Guest- 20 replies

Several years ago, I recall there was an Air Force TCTO that disabled the (hot) bleed air nose radome anti-icing on most of the USAF C-130s. Supposedly, the hot air system was causing delamination and/or deterioration of the fiberglass layers in the radomes, driving the radome reliability rate down to an unacceptable level. It seems the new radome that comes on the J-model does not have an anti-icing capability either. Any feedback from flight crews on icing conditions (?), or was it never really a problem to begin with.

Had a AC phase distribution diagram where each and every switch, light, valve, pump, instrument, etc. power source was shown, whether it was 3 phase or single phase, from what phase on a specific Bus. Can anybody help, please? Only the fairies will know what happened to my copy.

Hello all, I\'m looking for a part number for cloth sleeving- I\'m referring to the covering used over wire bundles or harness to protect the wires. I have some plastic one\'s , but prefer the clothe. I think it has a better life span and is more flexible when used with test cables. any help would be appreciated. Thank you Jeremy

Got a utility hydraulic system that shows normal level until the engines are running. The level comes down quite a bit, several inches. However, when the engines are shutdown and system is un pressurized, the fluid level comes back to the same as before. Where is the hydraulic fluid going? What is causing this drastic drop in hyd fluid level?

It may have been 1965 but I\'m inclined to believe that it was in 1966 that the 776th TCW received a factory notice concerning cracked wing struts. We maint. weenies had to crawl inside the wing with the most horrible paint remover, spread it onto the struts, move on to the next access panel, do the same thing, then go back to the first one, remove the paint remover and inspect the strut. Anyone out there remember that, and if so, do you have any more details? Thanks for any help...Chris

I\'m currently rebuilding a Herk in Yemen that has been grounded for 4 years. We are a few months away from flying but working with limited TO\'s and are stuck for some part numbers. Can anyone help with the part numbers for aft nacelle fairing or \'D\' panel anchor nuts, inbd & outbd and fuel tank indication boundary plug \'O rings\'. Also any part numbers for the old style dzus fastener type overwing filler caps would be much appreciated. The a/c is a basic late 80\'s H model MSN 4872. Many Thanks.
