Does anyone know if the P-3's use the exact same props as the Herc? Basically, are they the same diameter? They look a little smaller. Thanks.

On approach for landing, a C130 E Model aircraft lowers landing gears only. Flaps are already down. While Lowering the landing gears, utility pressure drops to 1375 PSI and low pressure EDP light of both Engines and low pressure light of Utility Suction Boost Pump illuminated. As soon as the Landing Gears were extended completely, system pressure came back to Normal with all conditions within limit. To what component can this occurrence be attributed? Can it be the failure of Utility System Accumulator, Suction Boost Pump or EDP? And if we were to attribute this to Accumulator, is it possible for an Accumulator to suck hydraulic pressure from pressure line to fulfill its …

Gentlemen, According to the Flight Manual, Flight Idle RPM is 92.5-100.5 %. If RPM in flight idle were to decrease as low as 92.5% what would prevent the acceleration bleed valves from opening below 94%. Do they actually open during Flight Idle operations in this case? Thanks all.

Can anyone out there tell me exactly where the pyrotechnics are located at on a HC-130P(King)? The reason that I am asking is because I have been tasked with doing an operational check on the pyro system and the only thing that I can come up with is the flare launch tubes. If I am wrong on this please let me know. Thanks for everyones help on this.

If an engine, in Low Speed Ground Idle, has the fire burning in the turbine area, how does that happen? It will start with low start TIT (750) and run in LSGI, but there is a fire in the turbine and the blades glow. The fuel nozzles were flow checked and they were good. If the engine is sped up to NGI, the fire goes out and when shifted down again, the fire stays out. I have never seen that before, and I don\'t really have an answer as to how it is happening. The only theory I can come up with is that, for some reason, the fire is not starting in one or more burner cans, so the fuel from that nozzle is making it back to the inlet guide vanes where it is igniting.…

I have an aircraft that starts to pull to the left as it goes past 60 knots. When airborne the problem gets worse. First thoughts are Rudder. The technicians claim that the entire assembly has been re-rigged but it seems as if the problem has gotten worse. The props have been checked closely, the synchrophaser and autopilot LRU\'s were completely removed/depowered, the nose gear has been checked. I am still convinced the Rudder system is defective..thoughts?

obviously the tach generator is self powered, but does it generate an AC current to power the dial or does it possibly use DC. My pubs don't really address it. The brush plate interaction on the pickup is normally a DC characteristic, but i can't help but say it's AC. thanks for any help.

Got a call from a fellow maintainer in Iraq asking for help with a pressurization problem. The 130 pressurizes fine in auto and manual until underfloor heat is turned on. When it is turned on, the guage climbs 1000 feet, which is normal. However, it fluctuates 700-1000 feet the whole flight. This problem has came down over 4 times and almost the whole system has been swapped out. Any suggestions on where they should start?

I am currently building a 1/72 scale plastic model of a C-130 Blue Angels Fat Albert. How do the rear troop doors open? Do they slide up or do they pivot to the side like an airliner door? I am not talking about the rear cargo door but the 2 right and left troop doors. I have seen some pictures of the interior and it looks like they come in and pivot to the right. However, I though i saw some photos that look like the doors slide up. Can anyone help me?

I read through the P-model -1 last night (slow night) and there was a note about the NESA windows that they are stronger with NESA turned on during flight. I never heard of this and hoped someone knew why this would be. I'm stumped on it.

Hey all, been awhile since I've posted, but I got something for you all. A few of us Engineer types were sitting around shooting the "sheet" and we got on the topic about the IRON LUNG system. Now someone brought up and wandered what the actual power source for that system is? Do any of you out there in HERKY land know the answer to this and could point me in the direction of reading material? Much appreciated! Dave

They are the funny looking ones like halve moons etc there are 4 in total and they are different shapes. they are thin stainless and nothing structural in my eyes. who can shine a light on this? thanks Bonzo

I´m working in a c130 H, s/n 5115, equipped with digital fuel indication. During normal flight, the pilots loose all fuel indication minus in the EXT LH and #3, whem they set the aircraft to a high velocity. In the begening they said that it was with a certain atitude. But after a new flight test, they saw that in all atitudes that they give to the aircraft the problem is the velocity. The indication goes off, like losing power, and goes on with a smaller velocity. Can someone help? Thank You

does anybody experience that: In flight we experience very big vibration( the left wingtip move at least 1 meter up and down), just after the number 1 engine flame out, we shut it down by moving the condition lever in feather then pulling the T handle. The vibration stopped but we have the surprise to see that only 3 blades came in feather position the fourth one stay in position. Sorry if my english isn't as good as i would like.
