Google custom search on the main page does a good job of finding information, but is there a way to find acronym descriptions without leaving C-130 Hercules .net and searching the WEB? Attached is a list of some acronyms that I found on C-130 Hercules .net Maybe the list could be expanded and be added to the Forum: Tips and Tricks section. Many acronyms are well known, for example USAF, Sgt, FU, but many related to C-130’s / aircraft are unique. A list might help 'just enlisted' or non-military guests figure out what were talking about. Repost if you want to add to, update or change the list…. Acronym Description AAF Afghan Air Force ABCCC Airborne Battlefi…

What are some of the weird/funny/illegal/interesting loads you've hauled or heard of hauled in your time? I've heard that there was a crew that took a POV on the road with them so they would have a set of wheels while they were there. Not sure how true that is... Would love to see some pictures!

WTF................I was on this morning at 05:40 EST and saw the pic's of the Polish Herk mishap and now they are gone! I've been telling every interested party about it all day and now they are deleted. What's up? It's not that big of a deal, but then again it's damn important to the crew's of all nation's that fly our bird. WHAT IS GOING ON? Kurt

How high have you flown in a Herk? 31,000 ft.. Highest I've been in a herk, but I'm sure a lot of you have been higher. This was on our way to Andoya, Norway.. 15" mercury. Nice and tight for a 1963 model..

Recently two pictures have appeared on the net of an L100 flying in the US. It has a number on the tail not an N number and not a USAF number. 41901. An airplane with this number was reported in a Hangar at Lockheed Greenville about 2 years ago. There are about 5 Herks commonly called \"Mystery Herks\" 5032,5048,5055,5056, and 5057 Lockheed says they did not build 4 of them but, I think they lie. Four are registered with the FAA 5032 N3755P supposedly flying with Prescott, 5048 M82178 was used by ALC, 5055 N8231G flying with Prescott, 5056 N8218J last seen flying for Mega Trade. All are registered to lawyers offices in Montana. 5057 has never been seen.5032 is the on…

Thought I'd start up a thread to track KC-130J deliveries to the Marines. My latest data shows: 5631 168074 Delivered Oct to VMGR-152, spotted in South Korea 5632 168075 Delivered Sep to VMGR-152, spotted in Japan That makes 38 delivered out of 46 ordered. Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) is based at MCAS Futenma (ROTM) in Japan. They are slated to operate 15 KC-130Js by Sept 2011. 5644 168065 #14, might be in flight test 5645 168066 #15

As many folks know, I follow both the military and commercial aviation industry very closely. It is with sadness that I report my belief that as of today, with the first flight of the Airbus A400-M, Lockheed and the C-130 are now in the latter stages of their terminal illness of failure in innovation. This is of course, my personal opinion based on my own observations. The United States has a great history in the invention and the historical development of great aircraft since the Wright Brothers took that first flight. We've built the world's best general aviation aircraft, bombers, fighters, commercial airliners, etc. Through the years, we've seen great compan…

Hey everyone, 1st time poster. Anyway i was watching AFN and they had a piece on a new C-130 8 bladed prop that is being designed for the NY ANG flying the LC-130\'s. They said it was to help them by giving them more power/thrust for taking off in snow and to stop using the JATO rockets due to $$$. Can anyone shine more light on this development and does anyone know if these new props will go on E\'s and H\'s? I\'m guessing they will have to mod the valve housing alittle Thanks Joe

Rate your chow halls! My best was at Midway NAS.The food was great the service was good. The food might have been good because I hadn't had a meal in over eight hours. Midnight chow was always the best SOS hot you can't beat it over scramble eggs love that still make it once in awhile. But truly from a country boys stand point all the food was good if you had been use to eating cornbread and beans everyday.

I just posted this , and it disappeared. let me try again..........Like i said before, you gutys know my mind can wander all over the place and all kinds of crazy stuff pops up, so bear with me........Every thursday I do a volunteer day at the local hospital helpin' out at the diagnostic center there. Yesterday this guy comes in, has a basic parachutist badge tatoo, asked him about it, turns out i very well may have dropped him down at Bragg about a hundred years ago. We talked abiout jumpin' and chutes and herks and things like that. Later, somewhere out of th blue came a recollection about the "four line cut." Now this, as I remember, was supposed to, when acomplished,…

I'm trying to help a retired C-130 Crew Chief prove boots on the ground. He was based at CCK and did rotations to TSN with his plane, I have reached out to my Congressman, Steve Womack, to see if we can get a short cut to getting credit for Vietnam service. I was able to supply the Air Force documentation and photos that proved my service. I was lucky to have all my old travel vouchers. They sent me a letter acknowledging my Vietnam service. Most people are not as lucky. I am trying to quantify the number of C-130 squadrons that were based off shore. I was at CCK and we had three. I can't remember where the "A" and "B" models were PCS or where they based in Vietnam. Also …

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a slightly unusual request. I'm a screenplay writer based in London and I'm currently putting the finishing touches to a script where all the action takes place inside a C130. The problem is, I have absolutely no knowledge of aviation whatsoever and have written myself into a bit of a corner so I'm desperately hoping someone might be able to help me out of it! The film is a real-time thriller, set entirely in flight (I'll spare you details unless you really want to hear them!) and our hero needs to communicate with the ground - the problem is, communications have been compromised due to gunfire on board (…

A while back we talked about the MC-130E's and I mentioned a rumor that I heard that at least 4 MC-130E's were going to the 189 AS in Idaho. Supposedly the 189 was BRAC'd. I just got an e mail today that said 4 stored MC-130E's had been sent to ID. Can anyone confirm it? is the 189 going to become an SOS or are they just going to haul trash with them? Thanks Bob

My wife and I recently made a trip to Davis Monthan AFB near Tucson Arizona. I felt the need to visit some of the planes I have worked on that are no longer in use and can be found only in Museums. I took 547 photos of planes in the Private Junkyards near the base, on the bus tour of the Boneyard and the Pima Air and Space Museum. I am posting some of the Herks I saw on the trip. I was also amazed at the number of planes I have never seen before. The 1st photo was taken while we were at one of the private junkyards. It was doing touch and goes and I decided to take a photo of it. My Wife made a comment about the Shark's mouth painted on it. I informed her that they d…

The Air Force has proposed killing the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP), aiming to replace it with a less expensive alternative, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz told reporters Tuesday at the Air Force Association’s Air & Space Conference. Calling the decision “largely an affordability issue,†Schwartz said service brass have pitched the idea to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Under that pitch, the AMP effort would be replaced with one that would fit airlifters with “stand-alone integrations†as opposed to the planned across-the-board avionics upgrades. Boeing had been the contractor the AMP program but was expected to comp…
